Introduction:
Eikaiwa Step Up has been proudly serving the Kusanagi and Shizuoka communities for over 21 years. Our mission is to inspire and motivate students to reach their full potential in English learning. Our unique curriculum emphasizes a balance of striving (80%) and achievement (20%), creating an environment where students develop both confidence and competence in their English skills.

At Step Up, we recognize that English learning is not just about mastering the language but also about nurturing resilience, motivation, and self-esteem. By focusing heavily on striving, students are encouraged to embrace challenges, grow through effort, and understand that persistence is key to success.

Striving Education:

Striving education prioritizes the learning journey over immediate results. This approach helps students develop a growth mindset?the belief that they can improve through dedication and hard work. At Eikaiwa Step Up, striving is integrated into the curriculum through:

・Continuous Effort: Students are encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and keep pushing themselves to improve.
・ Motivation and Engagement: Lessons are designed to spark curiosity and sustain interest, making students active participants in their learning.
・ Building Confidence: By focusing on effort and progress, students gain the courage to use English freely, without fear of mistakes.
・ Encouraging Resilience: When students encounter challenges, they are supported to persevere, teaching them that improvement comes through effort over time.

Achievement Education:

While striving is key, achievement also plays an important role, making up 20% of the curriculum. This aspect of education gives students measurable goals to work toward, allowing them to see the fruits of their efforts. Achievement education includes:

・ Goal Setting: Students set realistic, attainable goals that align with their level and interests.
・ Celebrating Milestones: We recognize both small and large achievements, such as mastering a new skill or completing a project.
・ Tracking Progress: Through assessments and feedback, students are made aware of their growth, helping them stay motivated and proud of their accomplishments.

Striving vs. Achievement: The Balance

By focusing 80% on striving and 20% on achievement, Eikaiwa Step Up fosters a balanced learning environment. Striving builds the internal tools-resilience, confidence, and the motivation to continue learning-while achievement gives students concrete markers of success, reinforcing their efforts. This balance is key to developing not only proficient English speakers but also lifelong learners who are unafraid of challenges.

-導入-
英会話 Step Up は、21年以上にわたり草薙と静岡の地域社会に貢献し、誇りを持ってサービスを提供してきました。私たちの使命は、生徒が英語学習において自分の可能性を最大限に引き出せるよう、インスピレーションとモチベーションを与えることです。私たちのユニークなカリキュラムは、努力（80％）と達成（20％）のバランスを強調し、生徒が英語スキルにおいて自信と能力を育む環境を提供しています。

Step Up では、英語学習は単なる言語の習得にとどまらず、レジリエンス（困難に立ち向かう力）、モチベーション、そして自尊心を育むことが重要だと考えています。努力に重きを置くことで、生徒は課題に挑戦し、成長の過程を通じて、粘り強さが成功の鍵であることを理解するよう導かれます。

-努力教育-

努力教育は、すぐに結果を出すことよりも、学習のプロセスに重点を置くアプローチです。この方法により、生徒は成長マインドセット（努力と勤勉さえあれば成長できるという信念）を育てることができます。英会話 Step Up では、努力を以下の方法でカリキュラムに組み込んでいます：

・継続的な努力：生徒はリスクを恐れず、間違いから学び、改善し続けることを奨励されます。
・モチベーションと関与：授業は好奇心を刺激し、学習意欲を持続させるよう設計されており、生徒が積極的に学習に取り組むようになります。

努力が重要である一方で、達成もカリキュラムの20％を占める重要な要素です。この部分では、生徒が具体的で測定可能な目標に向けて努力し、その成果を実感できるようサポートします。達成教育には以下が含まれます：

・目標設定：生徒は、自分のレベルや興味に合った現実的かつ達成可能な目標を設定します。
・節目の祝福：新しいスキルを習得したり、プロジェクトを完了した際、小さな達成も大きな達成も共に評価されます。
・進捗の追跡：評価とフィードバックを通じて、生徒は自分の成長を把握し、モチベーションを保ちながら達成感を得られます。

-努力と達成のバランス-

努力を80％、達成を20％に設定することで、英会話 Step Up はバランスの取れた学習環境を提供しています。努力はレジリエンスや自信、そして学び続けるための内面的なモチベーションを育み、達成は生徒に具体的な成果を示すことで、その努力をさらに強化します。このバランスは、挑戦を恐れない熟練した英語学習者を育てるために不可欠です。

～ご挨拶～

2021年度のスケジュールの始まりに伴いまして、レッスンの構成と目的を明確にお示ししようと思います。コロナウイルスを経験したことから、生徒のモチベーションに重点を置くことの大切さを再確認しなければならないと実感致しました。
私たちは最大限価値のあるレッスンを、楽しく居心地の良い環境で提供することを目指しております。下記では、より良いカリキュラムにするために行うことを説明致します。

１．　英会話STEP UPでは、各々の生徒の課題と能力のバランスが一致すると良いモチベーションに繋がると考え、各クラスを年齢ではなく、一人一人の能力に基づいて振り分けています。例えば、レッスンの内容が生徒の能力より難しいと生徒は緊張や不安を感じ、勉強へのモチベーションが下がります。反対に、生徒の能力よりもレッスン内容が簡単すぎるとレッスンが退屈に感じ、結果としてやはりモチベーションの低下を引き起こします。生徒が自分のスキルと合ったクラスでレッスンを行うことで、良いモチベーションを継続させることに繋がります。その為、英語に対する意識が高くなり、確実に英語力が向上している様子が多くの生徒に見られます。

２．　子供クラスではお子様の自信に繋がるように、また、聞き取っている英単語を自　　　　　　然に使える語彙に定着させる為、レッスン内容の約70％を復習に充てています。
３．　子供クラスで取り入れているブックタイムチャレンジは、様々な方法で新しい英単語に触れ、それを記憶し、素早く思い出せることを目的とした仕組みになっています。まず絵を見て視覚的に記憶し、ボイスレコーダーの併用で発音を学びます。その後、絵と音で記憶した単語を読み書きを通じて繰り返し復習することで、しっかりと内容を理解できるようになります。
４．　大人クラスでは3つのアイディアに焦点を当ててレッスンを進めています。
・生徒全員の会話時間の増加
　生徒はご家庭で英語を様々の方法で勉強をされているかと思いますが、会話の練習だけはパートナーが必要です。レッスン時間内にはクラスメイトとたくさん会話が出来るようなカリキュラムを設計しています。
・批評と補正
　　　学習の過程で間違えることは良い習得方法である為、講師はどのようなテーマに　　対しても励ましとアイディアを含めた批評と補正をさせて頂き、レッスン内でより探究できる環境づくりを目指しています。
・他人に教える

最善の習得方法は他人に教える事であり、それはご自身の認識を深めることに繋がります。その為、あらかじめ決められたテーマについて短いプレゼンテーションを行い、ご自身の知識を広げると同時に、その考えをクラスメイトと分かち合う事にチャレンジして頂いています。

より良い未来へ

I came to Japan from Canada in 1999 and was able to build a life here with many Japanese friends and acquaintances through communication and curiosity. I hope to continue this pattern while exploring different avenues of open communication. We have had many students with us for a long time, we are able to grow together through encouragement and sharing our victories as well as our defeats. We have created an Izakaya, Kizuna, with a similar concept of friendship and support. Students and friends have taught us the Japanese heart and true concept of omotenashi, we sincerely hope to use this concept and create a vast circle of support through communication. The next step is to be more global.

1999年にカナダから来日し、コミュニケーションと好奇心を通じて、日本人の友人や知人との生活をここで築くことができました。オープンコミュニケーションの様々な方法を模索しながら、この生活を続けていきたいと思います。
私たちは長い間多くの生徒と一緒に過ごし、励まし合いながら成功や失敗を共有することで一緒に成長することができています。私たちは「友情と助け合い」という同様のコンセプトを持つ居酒屋、Kizunaを作りました。日本の生徒や友人から、日本の心とおもてなしの真の意味を教えてもらいました。
このコンセプトを生かし、コミュニケーションを通じて大きな助け合いの輪をつくりたいと思っています。次のステップに向けて、グローバル化をさらに進めていきたいと思っています。

お子様の生徒さんへ

I hope for children students to be self-motivated, recognize the value in effort more than accomplishments. This is why we try to balance the activity with the students skill, our classes are able to have a wide range of ages and ability due to the layout of the curriculum. Students are able to progress at their own pace while being encouraged, this leads to consistent sustainable progress. Overall we hope to give children increased options and life paths.

子どもたちには、レッスンを通じてやる気を持ち、成果よりも努力の価値を知って欲しいと思っています。そのため、当教室では生徒の能力とレッスン内容のバランスをとろうと努めています。これを目的としたカリキュラムを組んでいるため、クラスは幅広い年齢と能力の生徒に対応することができます。生徒は励まされながら自分のペースで成長することができるため、継続的な成長が可能となります。その過程を通して、子どもたちの選択肢と視野を広げられたらと思っています。

大人の生徒さんへ

Our curriculum focuses on exploring new ideas in English from our fellow students. Each person has a wide variety of knowledge in subjects that they find interesting, students can benefit from practicing communicating about their specialty. While not all people have the same interest, the student with little or no knowledge on the subject of communication actually has a greater chance to learn and work on their speaking ability, through curiosity. Practicing using curiosity allows us to ask multiple questions and improves our listening and comprehension ability. This allows us to have an open minded viewpoint and can lead to not only better English communication, but also a better life experience.

私たちのカリキュラムは、仲間の生徒から英語で新しいアイデアを探ることに焦点を当てています。一人一人の生徒が、興味のある分野について幅広い知識を持っています。自分の専門分野でコミュニケーションの練習をすることは、とても有益です。一方で、話題についてほとんどまたは全く知識がない生徒は、好奇心を持つことで、スピーキング能力を高める大きなチャンスを得られます。好奇心を持って会話に参加することで、多くの質問をすることができ、リスニング力と理解力が向上します。これは私たちにオープンマインドな視点を持つことを可能にし、より良い英語コミュニケーションだけでなく、より良い人生経験にもつながります。
